Stupid Facebook memes

There's this annoying Facebook meme that a couple of my friends have shared. It says "Stop subsidizing your illness and start investing in your wellness." The "subsidizing illness" part is accompanied by a picture of pill bottles and the "wellness" part is accompanied by the words "eat healthy" and a picture of fruits and vegetables.

I replied to someone who posted the meme, telling her that no matter how many fruits or vegetables or other healthy foods I eat, I will still need to take my insulin and other prescription medications in order to stay alive. My friend responded by starting out "well, SOME diseases need medication" but then devolved into a rant about "blah blah blah pharmaceutical industry blah blah over-dependence on medications blah blah blah too many processed foods" and then shared a link to a "30-day raw food diet" that is supposedly beneficial to people with diabetes.

Why do so many people have a problem with the fact that some of us have to use the products of the pharmaceutical industry to stay alive and that it's not a choice of either taking medication or eating a healthy diet? I try to eat as healthy as I can (though I will sometimes succumb to the siren call of fast food) but that does not mean I get to stop taking my insulin.
